Amruta Khanvilkar was born on 23 November 1984 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a Marathi family. She is the daughter of Ajit and Gauri Khanvilkar and grew up in a close-knit joint family alongside her younger sister, Aditi, who works as an air hostess.
She spent her childhood in Mumbai before her family shifted to Pune in the aftermath of the 1993 Mumbai attacks. She completed her schooling at Karnataka High School, Pune, and later graduated from Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce.
