The last wedding of the year (at least to the best of our knowledge) took place today and culminated in a ceremony that brought Sobhita Dhulipala and beau (and one of Southern India’s most notable actors) Naga Chaitanya together. Unlike a lot of couples, famous or otherwise, Sobhita and Naga were hardly secretive about their wedding – sharing pictures of their traditional engagement ceremony and pre-wedding festivities with the world that only got netizens more interested in their relationship and, more importantly, their wedding. And now that the pictures are out, and one more celebrity couple has entered into holy matrimony, we can’t wait to break down their wedding looks for you.

Sobhita and Naga, both from Telugu-speaking families, have put their culture front and centre since the beginning, sticking with rituals intrinsic to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Choosing a silk half-sari for her engagement and saris for events leading up to the wedding, Sobhita has approached the wardrobe for this phase of her life in a traditional fashion. Then, her wedding outfit would be emblematic of it.
Sobhita wore a pattu cheera – Telugu for silk sari – for the main wedding. The antique gold sari features zari made with real gold. She accessorised with several temple jewellery staples such as a choker and a classic long necklace featuring paisley patterns, and layered them with another longer necklace, and finished the look with matching kaan chains and earrings and bangles. Jewellery also included a heavily ornamented matha patti along with hair pins shaped as sun and moon worn on either side, armlets and a cummerband. She also wore a septum ring along with her signature nose pins.

The groom, Naga Chaitanya, wore a traditional wedding look, too, with an off-white dhoti featuring a red temple border design, a kurta and a red scarf with matching pattern. The duo played within the most-preferred colour palettes culturally prescribed for South Indian brides and grooms.
Despite their extremely contemporary bodies of work and personal style, when it came to their wedding wardrobes, it was refreshing to see both Sobhita and Naga Chaitanya embrace their culture and bring their heritage to the fore.
